$20 garage sale dresser makeover

Hey guys Fancy Farmgirls here!  We hope you’re all enjoying your summer!

Along with summer, comes garage sale season, our favorite place to get furniture with potential.

We’re here to share another paint transformation.

This garage sale dresser was structurally in perfect condition, just a little drab and plain.

The hardware was outdated and the shape isn’t too exciting but for $20 he came home with me.

A little paint and stain and…

AFTER.

To make it even better we used paint and stain and hardware we had lying around from past projects.

So total project cost…$20!

This was one Saturday mornings garage sale haul.

A sea of brown.

But look at these prices.  A little elbow grease and paint and these pieces can be updated so easily.

First up… Remove all existing hardware.

Next give the piece an all over quick sanding.  Just rough it up enough to give it some grit for the paint to adhere to.

At this point you could paint the whole piece with paint but we wanted to try a two tone dresser effect.

So we kept sanding the drawer fronts down to the raw wood.  These will get wood stain.

Each drawer took just over two minutes to sand down to the bare wood with our favorite orbital sander.

Only sand the flat drawer fronts and leave the beveled edges for paint.

I used BM Simply White OC-117 which we had leftover from our cabinets from our home build.

We are anything but paint snobs so use whatever paint you have on hand.

Yes, there’s different types and different things we love and dislike about each but

thats another discussion for another day.

Just grab that paint brush, don’t overthink it, and paint!

Chalk paint, milk paint, latex paint they’ll do the trick.

I rolled the top and sides with a foam roller but hand brushed the beveled edges first.

Just a little tip, by painting first before sanding, any paint that leaked onto the wood fronts, I was able to just sand it away instead of having to tape it all off.

This is the stain color used, which I absolutely love.

It’s like a perfect milk chocolate color with no hints of orange or red.

I rounded up some existing hardware and united them all with

Rustoleums oil rubbed bronze.

And… I love it!

We’ll be adding this piece to our collection were building for our Fancy Farmgirls Barn Sale this Fall!  (stay tuned for dates).
