Nursery Decorating Ideas Part 5: Barn Wood Wall Art

Hello ATT readers!!! I hope you will forgive me over the next couple of weeks if you see a few grammatical errors…etc. My brain is a little fried due to lack of sleep. šŸ™‚ I can’t believe that it has been 4 days since Creed was born! We are both doing great other than the fact that we are a bit sleep deprived. He is such a sweet addition to the family. I just have to protect him my three year old Londyn who loves to kiss (maul) him constantly.

Well, as you have probably noticed, nursery decorating ideas have been my main focus for the last little while here at ATT. I have this obsession with nurseries, and I wanted mine to be ultra unique. I wish I could unveil the whole room for you RIGHT NOW!!! But, if I did that, then I’d have nothing to post about for the next few weeks…soooooo slowly and surely you’ll get to see the entire design. šŸ™‚

For this wall-art project, I started with three slats of barn wood that I hooked together with wire.

Then, I used my awesome-possum silhouette machine to cut me some vinyl lettering for the slats. My husband Dan has a great singing voice, and ever since my oldest was a baby, he has always sung the song “You are my sunshine…” to my kids. I love it! So, I wanted to use a line from the lyrics for this design.

The great thing about the Silhouette is that you can enter in the dimensions of your project, and it will cut the letters exactly the right size to fit. And as easy as that….I have a decoration for my nursery that is very sentimental and fun!

My daughter Londyn was singing the song the entire time I was putting on the words. I just HAD to share her cute little rendition. šŸ™‚ Can you tell her Dad sings to her a lot!?!

I thought the wall art turned out darling. I love how simple it is, and it makes me think of all the precious memories of my hubby singing to each of my babies!

Wish me luck over the next couple of days that my feet will return to their normal size since they look like balloons right now! šŸ™‚

  1. So very cute, I need to get me some barn wood . . . and your daughter singing is so so sweet! Sorry about your swollen feet, that is the worst! I react to antibiotics they give during labor that way, and take dandelion (from any health food store) and it clears it all out of the system so much faster! good luck!

  2. Another version that we sang to our son, Sean, before all the others were born: "You are my son, Sean, my only son, Sean…" Congratulations to you and Welcome to the world, Creed!

  3. This is an extremely cute project. Now I'm just waiting for a good deal on the Silhouette. My daughter London, age 1 1/2 had to watch your adorable Londyn about 20 times! Very cute!

  4. Hi Brooke, like a few people before I was just wondering where you got you barn wood. My husband and I drove around to a few places with abandoned building/barns, but noone was willing to let us have or purchase any wood.

  5. My friend gave it to me for free. He was doing a clean up on an old house and came across a huge pile. So, he gave it to me for free! I'm sorry, I wish I had a better answer for you.

  6. Love this!!! Do you think pallet wood could work for this project? I have tons of pallets and im trying to figure out what to do with them. šŸ™‚ My husband has already made a pallet toddler bed, im sure he wouldnt mind making something else as cute as this šŸ™‚

  7. Hello there! I know this is an older post, but I hope you see my comment šŸ™‚ I was wondering what are the measurements of the boards that you used and what size is the letters? Just trying to get an idea of what yours is before I start and accidentally make it way to big or small, yours seems to be the perfect size!

    1. Hi Amanda! Yes, I see old comments and try my darnedest to reply! The entire thing is 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Each board is 4 feet long exactly and 7 1/2 inches wide. The letters are very close to 4 1/2 inches tall. Good luck!
