I have a challenge. I want every family to carve at least 1 pumpkin this year. Are you down? #youcandoit
So, since we carve pumpkins, and love it so much, we have compiled a list of 5 things that we swear by. We use them all personally. We can’t live without them, and we own them all {or 10 or more of them in some cases}.
#1: The Pumpkin Gutter. No more spoons needed, folks, this tool will change your life. It means that you will not have to get your hands very nasty anymore while gutting pumpkins. Hook it onto a drill and watch it do it’s magic.
#2: Clay Loop Tool . The clay loop is used to thin out the inside walls of your pumpkin. When you carve, the walls of your jack-o-lantern should only be about 1 inch thick. When you thin out the wall, it makes carving 50 ba-dillion times easier <—not an exaggeration.
#3: Artificial Pumpkin Carving Knives {or they might be cheaper HERE}. These knives are made for carving fake pumpkins, which means they are stronger than the regular carving kits. They are smaller at the ends which make them easier to make small cuts. They are what we use for 95% of our pumpkin carvings.
#4: Blue Saral Transfer Paper makes carving pumpkins a breeze, but first you need #5! {FYI, we have tried a ton of different brands and colors, and this one seems to take the cake. We’ve been using it for over five years now.}
#5: A Pumpkin Pattern. Following a pattern takes your pumpkin carving from just ok to jaw dropping. Just use the transfer paper above to transfer it directly onto your carved pumpkin and you will be ready to get started!

Have a great weekend!
I have a relationship with the above mentioned products/brands. If you choose to buy something I will earn a small commission from your purchase. I wouldn’t tell you about a product that I didn’t believe in 100%.

We basically carve pumpkins until we are sleep deprived and display them for the public in our driveway on Halloween night!
Last year we ended up with around 80 pumpkins but some pumpkins had multiple designs, so we had a lot more than 80 carvings! Check out the carvings from: 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2010.
Please post pictures of your pumpkins! Would love to see them! (Am in Texas so cannot come see them in person).
Hi Laura! Yes, We will definitely post pictures! Stay tuned!
I bought items 1,2, and 3 for carving this year and they were all great!!! Thank you for the recommendations. I love the Pumpkin Gutter – so much fun to use. My kids (11 and 12) loved the clay tool and carving knives.
Happy Halloween!!!
I’m so glad you loved them!
