How to paint chalk paint with a sprayer

I’m a huge fan of BBFrosch chalk paint powder. In the last two years, I have COMPLETELY changed my furniture painting techniques, and for big furniture projects spraying is soooo much faster!

My good friend Kristen from BB Frosch taught us how to use Chalk Paint in a sprayer a few months ago, but I wanted to show you a refresher course just in case you needed a reminder of how easy it is!

The best sprayer to use is the Homeright Finishmax sprayer. {No this is not a sponsored post, but if you do purchase a sprayer by clicking on the above link, I will earn a small commission}.

Chalk Paint in a Sprayer

The Homeright sprayer is soooo easy to use, and I love how fast it dries. Painting furniture goes VERY fast with this technique. Check out Kristen’s husband Jason in the video below for a demonstration.

After you spray your furniture and wait for it to dry, use 3M fine grit sanding sponges. {Kristen uses 800 grit sandpaper, and that works great too.} She says, “You can use as low as 400 grit, but any lower, and you will distress instead of smooth. To smooth without distressing, just “wipe” across your piece with the sandpaper much like you would if you were dusting with a dust-cloth. I like to hold the smoothing sandpaper in one hand while following along with my other hand to give my work the “touch test.”

I agree 100%. As long as it feels nice and smooth, I move on.

One thing that I don’t use as much as Kristen is clear wax. I like to use Matte Clear Topcoat from Rustoleum instead of wax. I like it a lot better, but that’s just my personal preference. If you want to read my post about what topcoat you should use on chalk paint that isn’t wax, click HERE.

I haven’t tried to use the topcoat in a sprayer yet, but as soon as I do I will let you know how it went! I will update this post too. 🙂

Let me know if you have any questions.  Have a great weekend.

xoxo,

Brooke
