Happy Halloween! I may or may not be writing this post at 2:42 am. Who knows, maybe you are on the ball and don’t finish your kids costumes the DAY before HALLOWEEN like I do. In all honesty, I usually buy my Halloween costumes. It’s true. By the time we carve 88 million pumpkins, I’m pretty spent. But there was just something that sunk me when my I looked into my 8 year old daughter’s blue eyes when she asked me if she could be an American Girl Doll this year for Halloween. I could not say no. I just couldn’t. After all, I knew I had the skills. I couldn’t say, “Oh I don’t know how to make that,” because honest to goodness, as soon as she said it I knew exactly how to make her the cutest American Girl Doll in the world.
So we wrapped up a cardboard box {ours was from a water heater}, added some branding by tracing the American Girl Logo in my Silhouette CAMEO 3 machine, and we cut some stars for the sides too.
My cute husband hooked ropes from the bottom of the box so she could wear the box like a backpack. We learned that the rope had to be hooked from the corner in the front to the corner in the back or else the box was unbalanced. We did this on both sides to create shoulder straps.
She was so excited! We bought matching pjs for her and her doll too!
I bought bright pink wrapping paper from Wal-Mart. Plus, we framed the box with white duck tape, and added a strip with pink vinyl, and slapped on the the branding with white vinyl.
If you would like to see how I traced my American Girl Doll logo, check out my tutorial on how to trace images with a Silhouette machine HERE.
Hope you have a Happy Halloween! I hope you get more sleep than I do!
xoxo,
Brooke
