Hey friends! Fall is in the air and I couldn’t be more excited about it! Do you feel the same? Today’s post is a tad long but if you can hang in there, I swear it will be totally worth it in the end! 😉
If you have been following along with us the past couple weeks, you will have noticed a fun series that we have going on! Jo and her husband recently purchased their first home!
Following their very first walk through, they knew immediately that it was what they wanted BUT that it would need some serious work. After some planning and decision making though, they decided it was a go! {Plus I might have bribed them with frequent drop-ins which would involve frozen hot chocolates from Dairy Queen.}
Back to the floors. This home had all of the original flooring in it and after being previously occupied by a very busy family, had a bit of wear. The first three levels had carpet and we knew it had to go! Down in the kitchen is linoleum. {which is another level}. It wasn’t terrible but go big or go home right? Plus we knew that whatever our choice was, it would need to be cohesive with that space…. meaning it had to go in all the rooms plus over the top of the preexisting kitchen floor. Carpet is easy to remove but linoleum…. not so much. Oh and did I mention this house has one million 24 stairs.
Here’s a quick glance at the space we are working with:
With the walls now painted with Sherwin Williams, Repose Gray and the ceiling a bright white, we were in search of a warmer, darker floor. Another thing we needed to remember was where this was going, ie the kitchen and a small bathroom. Those rooms can mean water so again we needed to make sure that whatever we choose, would work.
Here was our check list:
- Flooring had to look good in front room, living room, kitchen, hall and small bathroom
- Had to be somewhat easy to install on stairs
- Needed to be the right color
- Water resistant
- All around easy to install
- Withstand normal wear and tear
Que looking at alllllllll the flooring! If you have ever looked into flooring, you know how…. stressful it can be. Our first stop was to our local furniture store to check out samples and colors.
Jo and I were there for quite some time. But guys. When you know, you know, right? It was like the clouds parted and the angels began singing when we found Quick•Step . They have several collections to choose from, lots of different colors and HUGE samples that you can “check out” and bring home. I love that. I mean, how can you tell from a 6 by 6 inch square if that will look good?
She ended up taking home 2 different colors in this collection. They both looked good in the room and with the wall color.
Here it is in one of the rooms that it will go. And we loved both colors but we were still worried about the kitchen and bathroom. So after a little further research, we found out that another collection that Quick•Step carries is the Envique ! Did you know this was made for those areas?! And can I just say this stuff is gorgeous, the wood grain looks and feels like real hard wood and it passed our check list with flying colors!
Que the clouds and the singing angels again. 😉
After looking at the colors offered in the Envique, we went with the darkest one they had, the maison oak planks! It is perfection. {They have since added darker colors but I am still LOVING the one we picked!}
Just look at those lines and knots!
After selecting the flooring, getting measurements and placing our order, it was time to wait.
Oh man, delivery day! We were like kids on Christmas morning! Ha!
Check back soon to see how installation went and what the house looks like now…. You are going to LOVE it!
xoxo
