5 Minute DIY Shelf

If you’ve got an awkward corner and five minutes, I’ve got a solution for you!

My daughter does eyelashes and needed a shelf she could easily reach while working. She also happened to have an awkward corner nearby and a spare piece of wood in the garage…

In five minutes, we knocked out this little gem:

With the exception of the shelf brackets, which we found on Amazon, we had everything else needed for the project on hand:

  • piece of 1×10 wood cut to 24”
  • BB Frösch Chalk Paint Powder
  • black paint (mixed with BB Frösch to make our own chalk paint—click here for how to make your own chalk paint)
  • small sponge (we just cut a piece from a large grout sponge)
  • jar of water

We also used:

STEP ONE:

Faux stain your board with black paint (or any color you want) mixed with BB Frösch. Click here for easy step-by-step instructions on how to faux stain.

Or, watch this quick video!

STEP TWO:

Once paint has dried (about 2 min), dark wax with BB Frösch Dark Premium Finishing Wax

STEP THREE:

Measure about 4” in from outside edges of board and attach brackets to shelf

STEP FOUR:

Using the screw holes on the brackets as a guide, mark wall for shelf to hang level, then screw brackets (that are already attached to shelf) into wall

STEP FIVE:

Step back and admire your handiwork:
