Decorating for Christmas is definitely a fun part of the winter season, but I’m going to admit something to you. I’ve actually never loved tablescapes. I’m intimidated! Plus, decorating tablescapes can get pricey. So, this year, I challenged myself to host a fun Christmas dinner. I wanted the ideas to be affordable and easy to help anyone who may be intimidated like me.
Confession: I have to admit, I forced two friends to come and help me set this up {Thank you Jo and Jamie}. Sometimes I just need a little bit of encouragement from my peeps when I’m feeling insecure. I searched Pinterest for a few minutes to see what vibe I wanted to go with, and headed to JOANN to gather supplies. If I can do it, I PROMISE you can too. This is a perfect example that even though I feel confident and creative in one area, that does not mean I feel that way in everything! Until now, I’ve loved the idea of creating a beautiful Christmas table, but I’ve never actually tackled the project.
Everything you see in this picture is from JOANN, except for the plates, utensils, chargers and cups. I love that you don’t have to run from store to store.
Check out my 7 tips to create an affordable Christmas tablescape.
- Add a wreath to the back of your chairs for less than $2 each! I was pleasantly surprised that I could add wreaths so inexpensively! In order to avoid high wreath costs, you can make your own wreaths out of garland. I bought simple $7 pine garland from JOANN and cut each strand into four 27-inch pieces with wire cutters. Then I wired them into wreaths and they worked perfectly.
2. JOANN has an amazing selection of ribbon, and I decided to get two main ribbons, a classic red-satin, and a more rustic buffalo check. A fun inexpensive way to add dimension is to layer a more expensive ribbon behind a less expensive one to add dimension with a lower price tag. 3. Add a small pine wreath to decor that you already own such as candlesticks, lanterns, and centerpieces. I bought these lanterns at JOANN this year, but I love that they can be used for any holiday!
But they look extra cute with the pine and berries wreath placed directly on top of the existing greenery.
I had a pine slice outside, so I decided to add it to create a little height.
4. Wrap a few empty boxes with cute wrapping paper to use for decoration. It’s easy and extremely inexpensive.
5. Use holiday gift wrap for a cheap tablecloth and placemats. I used plain brown paper for the table cloth, and cute red and black buffalo check wrapping paper for the placemats. We cut them out with scissors and glued them to the paper tablecloth with a glue stick to prevent them from bowing.
6. Use a simple pinecone pick as a napkin ring. I love how cute the pinecone napkins turned out and it was simple and very inexpensive.
7. Install the JOANN App for coupons, it’s worth it, I promise. If you haven’t installed the app yet, you are missing out on some HUGE savings. I got $10 off a purchase of $50 or more, plus 40% off a regular priced item too! PLUS, the cashier gave me a secret, if you text “coupon” to 56266, and confirm your subscription, you get a 20% off your entire purchase coupon!
I am thrilled to have my friends over for a fun Christmas feast, and I am feeling a little more confident about tablescape decorating.
Let me know if you have any questions!
xoxo,
Brooke

Is that All Wrapped Up gift wrap covering the tables?
It’s actually from JOANN, it’s part of their Maker’s Holiday gift wrap.
Love the idea of wrapping paper placemats on brown paper ‘tablecloth’. Especially with kiddos probably already have the items on hand. Will def try one holiday this year. Thanks for sharing!
Wow. Well done. Very beautiful and very festive. Love, love, love.
