$12 Farmhouse Faux Light Hack

Fancy Farmgirl’s Here!

We love farmhouse style and we love that it is a style that can be done on a budget.  Thrift store finds, mix in easily with the new. Well prepare yourselves to be mind blown because I’m about to show you a farmhouse light that can be done for $12 buckaroos! First,… all credit for this GENIUS hack goes to Brooke from Nesting with Grace . She’s the queen of adding cozy soft lighting through out her home. However, adding lighting includes calling electricians and big holes in the wall….. till now!

Farmhouse light. No electrician needed and…. Let there be light!

It starts with this guy.  $9.98 at Lowe’s.  Check your local Re Store and thrift stores as well.

I picked up these guys at the Re Store for $2 and $3 bucks.  They are both frosted glass but with a quick coat of Rust-Oleum Metallic oil rubbed bronze, you’d never guess they weren’t bought as a one piece light.

And the light?

Battery powered puck lights that I glued right on to where the normal bulb would screw in.  I used Rubber cement and let it sit overnight before hanging.

This mounts directly to the wall and the light fits right on top.  Two screws is the only damage done  should you change your mind about having a light there later.

I’m pretty giddy about the possibilities here of adding more lighting here, there and everywhere.  And yes, you should know the output on these casts just a nice warm glow.  Which is exactly what I wanted for these areas.  It is not a bright light that lights up the entire area.

Two so far and plans for more!

  1. Love this! Thank you for the idea! I found the Lowe’s light kit and some glass globes and my ReStore and am on way to adding some of these in my house! Love the “Be Kind” sign………do you have a link or place you picked the sign and shelf?

    1. Yes. Sign is from Artisign Designs and metal shelf is from Hobby Lobby. So glad you’re going to try it! Such an easy gratifying project that adds some nice cozy!
