I’m really excited to start off the weekend by showing you our first Christmas project of 2012! We’ve been decorating for the holidays around here and I’m excited to show off some fun projects over the next week or so.
Our first project is our front door wreath!! If you follow me on Instagram, you got a preview yesterday. Some of you thought I was making a sunburst mirror. You were on the right track if that was your guess!
I can’t believe that December starts tomorrow. WHAAA? This year FLEW by and before we know it, it will be January, heck before we know it, it will be AUGUST!
Anyway, I’m excited to be teaming up with Home Depot as a member of the Fall Style Guide Blogger Network. If you haven’t looked at their Fall Style Guide {or any of their Style Guides for that matter} you definitely should. Home Depot’s Style Guides are a great place to find inspiration for projects and it even includes instructions and a supply list to make it easier!
In fact, while I was in our store, the Style Guide App told me whether certain items were in stock! HECK, it even told me which aisle to look for the items!
It was amazing.
While looking at the Style guide, two particular wreaths caught my eye. I even pinned them on my Home Depot inspiration pinterest board.
The first wreath that caught my eye was this fun trio that looks like a SNOWMAN! It is darling. The wreaths start small and increase in size [a concept that I hadn’t ever thought of before]. Then, those crazy creative geniuses tied a scarf around it’s neck and VIOLA it’s a snowman. I almost made one JUST like it but for some reason, my mind was stuck on the sunburst mirror project {also from the Style Guide}.
So, what did I do? I combined the two!!! :
Making this wreath was super easy, but you need quite the list of items to make it. So, feel free to adjust the plans if you need to.
Supplies list:
3 packages of wood shims
Martha Stewart Mirror set
1 1×2 board
White spray paint
Small piece of holiday-themed fabric
Black and orange craft glue
Hot glue gun and glue {if you want them to stay, you will need an ultra hot glue gun}.
Wreath holder
Screw driver
Optional: Silhouette Machine to cut the eyes, buttons and snowflake
Saw to cut the shims {we used our miter saw, but you could use a number of saws. I even used some heavy duty kitchen shears to cut some of them! YES, the shears are ruined now, but that’s the life of a crafter, right!?!? My mom HATED when I used spoons outside to dig in the dirt, but it was the only thing that worked. It was worth it. SHHHH, don’t tell her.}
Step 1: Cut the shims into three sizes. One package of shims can be cut directly in half so that they are 7 1/2 inches long. The other two wreaths had 6 inch shims and 4 inch shims. {Note that the size of the mirrors also get smaller.}
