So every once in a while I come across a recipe. A recipe that I love, love and go to all the time. Let’s just say, I stick with what I know!
These brownies, are just that. Amazing. And like the title states, they have a secret ingredient that I am about to share with you. This isn’t just any ingredient either. This is what absolutely makes these. So make sure your printer is hooked up or that you have pen and paper nearby because you are going to want to jot this one down…
Step one:
Grab your favorite brownie mix. I prefer Ghirardelli. And while you are at the store picking one of those up, make sure you grab two {2} symphony bars.
{I realize only one is pictured here but I did use 1 and 1/2 bars for this particular recipe!}
Step 2: Make your brownies according to the box. Put only {HALF} of the batter into your 8×8 pan.
Step 3: Lay your symphony bar {the secret ingredient} onto the batter.
On the left is the whole bar, on the right is pieces of the second. {I may have eaten the rest!}
Step 4: Spread the rest of the batter onto the top of the chocolate bar. Mmmmmm.
{Just looking at this and knowing the delicious outcome makes my mouth water!}
Step 5: Bake as directed and ENJOY!
If you are impatient, it might be a little too gooey to eat!

Brooke
HOLY COW Brooke! That looks AMAZING! 🙂 Well played my friend, my thighs might be sad but my taste buds are SO EXCITED to try this out! THANKS! 😀
Yum! Great idea!
They sound divine. I suspect they were all eaten before you could photograph them finished.
We love this recipe at our house. Because of how rich it is, I only make it once or twice a year. My sister is the one who shared the recipe with me…In her neck of the woods they call it “crack brownies” as they are very addicting.
Have a Fabulous Friday!

You’re kidding, right? Who thought this up? Wow, it sounds absolutely, incredibly delicious!! I don’t do desserts much, but this one I have to pin…and try. Thanks for sharing.
Debbie 🙂
**GASP** Ghirardelli brownies and Symphony bars are two of my most favorite things E V E R. Never thought to do this! Yummmm
Wow….these look and sounds amazing. I know my hubby will like them!
this is great thank you
When you make them, do you only bake for half the time for each half?
You bake the brownies all at the same time. You place your candy bar directly onto the batter. Then bake as directed on the box. Hope this helps! xoxo
I have known about Symphony Brownies for years. It is not new. My supervisor baked them constantly for our potluck parties while I worked as a teacher for 17 years. I am very surprised no one knows about them. They’re delicious! Symphony is one of my favorite candy bars (almonds and toffee candy covered in milk chocolate); SO GOOD! This is not new to me though; awesome recipe like she said!
Brooke,
Is there a particular reason you use Symphony bars? Would this work well with like a regular Hershey milk chocolate bar? I’ve never eaten a Symphony bar so I don’t know what I am missing.
Symphony bars are my favorite! But yes you could use whichever chocolate bars are your favorite!
Do you add 1 or 2 eggs to the brownie mix?
We usually put as many eggs as the directions say for fudge-like brownies 🙂 I think that’s 1.
I used Hershey bars because they were on sale. They were heavenly. ..we’ll sinful might be a better word.
Sinful is the perfect word to describe them! xoxo!
They are also very good with Andies mints in place of the candy bar.
These looked so delicious! The more chocolate the better, right?! I’m making a batch right now but I used the xl size Reese bar! Hope they taste as amazing as they look! ????
Would this work in a 13×9 inch pan ?
As long as the box says you can use a 9×13, then it should be fine. You’ll just want more than one candy bar. Hope this helps!
OMGosh!! These were absolutely amazing!! I took these to my card party the other night and came home with a clean plate (not a one left for my husband!) and lots of requests for the recipe, which of course is what I call a nothing recipe. My kind of recipes!! No muss, no fuss, didn’t even use my mixer to make these. Just lots of good taste!! YUMMO!! Thanks for sharing this. :>)
I’ve been making these for YEARS. They are fantastic, and always a hit because they taste like they took way more effort than they actually do! Great post!
Oh my goodness! The first thing that came to mind is, “AHHHH, why is she telling the secret?” lol . I make them the same way and get such praise. As a mother of ten, praise from your spouse and children means so much. Now that they know my secret I shall have to find a new secret recipe. lol. Great minds think alike is what I am told. Happy baking!
Don’t worry Lori! Your secret is safe with me! That’s the beauty of having millions of people in the world, right? 🙂 xoxo
Girl! OMGOODNESS. OK first Symphony is my favorite candy bar, so I had to make these brownies! Made them last night ,SO SO DELICIOUS! Seriously, they are amazingly yummy chocolaty fudgey goodness. Thanks for sharing!!!!
Now you’ve done it. I want to make these again! HAHAHA
I’ve used this recipe for a number of years, and you’re sooooooo right, they’re DIVINE indeed. But my recipe was labeled “Better Than Sex Brownies.”
It’s all good!
Yes — this recipe is a tried and true dessert that everyone needs to keep in their recipe collection! I make it all the time, and my family NEVER tires of this deliciousness! 😉
Yes! I absolutely LOVE this recipe and make it all the time! Everyone should have this recipe in their collection!
I made these with Duncan Hines chocolate chunk mix and a Hershey’s bar & ohhh my goodness they were yummy.
I was thinking of using a caramello bar next time!
What is a Symphony bar.. I have never heard of them, not sure we get them in Canada?!
It’s a candy bar with almonds and toffee and can usually be found in our grocery stores. If you have anything similar to that in Canada, I’m sure it would work! I hope this helps! xo
Thanks for this, they look amazing! Needed something easy for a grad party today and this is perfect, might have to make a double batch for at home later though!
Are these still good the next day?
YES! Delicious!
