Hey ATT readers, this is Lauren from Tastes Better From Scratch here to share another delicious chocolate frosted treat with you! (You may remember the yummy Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream that I shared a few weeks ago).
So, I did a whole series on my blog recently where I shared my favorite “basic” recipes. My favorite chocolate chip cookies, my favorite honey whole wheat bread, etc. Well, I saved one of my best “basic” recipes for you guys–that’s how much I love it over here!
I’m a proud chocoholic. I especially love a good chocolate frosting! These brownies remind me of the yummy “lunch lady” brownies we got at school as a kid. They’re thick and chewy and the frosting literally melts in your mouth. Everyone needs a good homemade brownie recipe and this one is always a crowd-pleaser!
Chocolate Frosted Brownies
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 large eggs
3 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
5 Tbsp butter, room temperature
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
pinch of salt
1 – 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
2-3 Tbsp milk or cream
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a mixing bowl add granulated and brown sugars and melted well. Beat until well combined. Add eggs, beating after each addition. Add milk and vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix just until combined. The batter will be thick. Pour batter into a greased 8×8” baking pan and spread into an even layer.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before frosting.
- Cream the butter until light. Add the cocoa powder and salt and beat until well combined. Add vanilla. Alternately add powdered sugar and milk, mixing well until you reach your desired frosting consistency. Add more milk for softer frosting or more powdered sugar for firmer frosting. Spread frosting onto cooled brownies. Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator.

Mmmmm. I usually cook from scratch, but use boxed mixes for brownies. I would rather make them from scratch too, but haven’t found a good recipe with the same consistency.
I am definitely going to try it.
