Craigslist and I have a love/hate relationship. But last week, Craig came through for me. I love him most of the time, but I don’t have all day to spend looking for items.
?You can get some SWEEEEEET stuff for super cheap.
?You can usually find whatever you are looking for with a little patience.
?Rare items are easier to find via Craigslist. For example, I see a lot of antique furniture that is AWE-SOME.
?Items are usually what the seller claims them to be. For example if they say “solid wood” I’ve found that 99% of the time it really is. š
*Some list items for ridiculous prices. For example, the couches that are 10 years old that look like a dog has been laying on it for at least that long is listed at $400.00. Really?
*Items that are no longer for sale. What a waste of time. Is this item for sale? No, sorry it’s not…then you need to remove it from the listings! š
*Finding the PERFECT item…and then being 5 min. too late because someone just called about it. So depressing!
*Items without pictures. I will probably never call you if the item doesn’t have a photo.
Honestly, the good outweighs the bad in my opinion. However, I don’t buy a lot of items on Craigslist because I’m pretty picky about prices and quality. But, every so often he comes through for me.
A local family was moving to Alaska….I got this piano for $50.00. Thank you Craigslist for telling me about it. Stay tuned for the transformation!
Yesterday, by mere minutes, I missed 8 queen anne antique chairs…in the free section. My heart still aches.
I have a love/hate relationship with it, too. I did just recently get a pair of AWESOME mid-century mod chairs for $40!
I feel the same way about the couch ads, too! The prices people ask for a gross, dirty, ugly couch astounds me!
You're refinishing a piano?!?! Oooohhh.. I am so excited to see how it turns out!!
Oh. My. Gosh! That is awesome! I have an old piano of a similar age, but the top was cut down in the 50's to add a mirror. Yours is BEAUTIFUL with everything still in tact! Are you going to paint it turquoise?
WOW for 50 bucks! i cant wait to see it done!
I used to love Craigslist, but now my husband and i are boycotting them…not that everyone has to, but we found out that the majority of human trafficking (esp children) in the USA happens on Craiglist! And they won't do anything abou it.
It's a huge problem in our city, which has many regugees who get cdaught up in this.
I have the same relationship with Craig. I've found some really great things for very cheap. I too can't believe the prices some people have the nerve to put on things. My most disappointing experience was finding a gorgeous mahogany Duncan Fife table and 6 chairs for $150. I was so excited and was the first to call. Made an appointment with the guy to go get it. Called the next morning to confirm time and he said he sold it!! What?!? Ummm…you were selling it to me! Can you tell I'm still upset.
Oooo! are you going to paint it? I just picked up a piano yesterday and really want to paint it, but it actually has a pretty nice cherry finish…I don't know what to do! I'll see how yours turns out then decide.
OMG. THAT PIANO IS SICK! I so envy you right now. Even though I have absolutely nowhere to fit a piano in my tiny room I would throw out my tv and dresser to make room lol
Wow! From this post, I'd say you were extra sweet to Craig at some point!
Usually, I find awesome things there when I'm …what else….BROKE!
Soooo true! You hit the nail on the head. I love/hate Craigslist for the same reason.
I'm with you on the loves and hates of craigslist.
I do a lot of window shopping here. I did however get a silhouette just today for $160. I will be spending tomorrow evening playing with it.

I am so completely anxious to see what you are up to with this piano!!! I literally can't wait!
Your comments are spot on – I agree one hundred percent! I'm a fellow Craigslist addict, when it's not annoying me altogether. š
wooohooo on the piano!
i love craigslist for selling, but i've never bought anything from it.
preach it sista. i love this post, its so true! cant wait for the reveal
I adore your blog…so so SO inspiring. And now you're re-doing a piano!? Holy moly, you amaze me! I can't wait to see the finished product. š
For years I've wanted to do something with my hand-me-down piano. I will wait to see the transformation. Hoping to be inspired.
I see lots of neat stuff posted on Craigs List everywhere but alas, ours does not have the great stuff nor the great bargains . . . but I did get one thing — a great table which I'm estatic with!
But perhaps the bargains are far and few between OR I don't spend enough time searching!
Lovely piano and what a price!
I feel THE SAME WAY about craigslist! A few months ago I found the perfect FREE piano though and was miraculously the first person to call. It's not pure wood and kind of a yellowish color. I'm dying to paint it black but need a little advise about doing so. People keep scaring me about painting a piano, saying it will ruin the sound quality. Anyway I'm so excited for you and the upcoming post! I'll be watching! THANKS!!!
ugh, you are SO totally right on the hate!!!
it is a love/hate relationship!
Dang it! Why couldnt they bring it to Alaska and sell it to me for $50. But I do have to say you did an awesome job with it.
I know this blog post is over 2 years old but I laughed so hard reading it … SAME emotions pro and con. Craigs List love it and exasperated by it. š
