We spent Thanksgiving in SLC this year.The five-hour trip to SLC was long, but I’m happy we went! Now that we are home, I can’t wait to put up our Christmas decorations. I have one problem though, the entire house is strewn with dirty clothes! Don’t ya love going out of town only to return to a three day “dig out” of laundry, cleaning, and unpacking?!!?
On a more positive note, Thanksgiving was an absolute blast. We haven’t gone up to SLC as many times this year, and it was fun to be there for an extended time. We never get to see everyone we want to see or do everything we want to do though.
But, I’m pleased to announce that I got nearly ALL of our Christmas shopping done on Black Friday. {No, I was not one of the brave people who camped out to get the deals, but I got pretty good deals by going shopping that afternoon.} I feel like I need a mentor to go with on Black Friday if I want to go to the crazy sales. Want to be be my mentor!?!? I look at the pictures and it makes me feel like I will get punched in the face or shot if I went to the madness. Am I over-reacting? I went shopping that afternoon for a few hours and most of the stores still had the items that I wanted.
My kids had a blast playing with cousins and probably would have loved to stay another two weeks if they could. BUT, reality came all too quickly, and we left for home.
I realized today while I was taking down my few Thanksgiving decorations today that I never posted them. So, I thought I would post a quick picture of my chalkboard quote for Thanksgiving. If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you may have already seen it, but I am sad to erase it because it truly set the tone of our home for the month.
It says “There is always, always, ALWAYS something to be THANKFUL for.”
It’s true. I have had a great time reflecting on my life this month. I had a very emotional couple of days one weekend when I poured out my heart and soul in my “Let’s have a heart to heart” post, and I cannot deny that it changed me forever.

I’m always impressed by the people that can do Black Friday really well and handle the crowds and not have a nervous breakdown or fit of rage. I’m with you. I venture out in the afternoon and always score a few fun treats.
I seriously love your wall. I’ve hoarded a bunch of frames to do a fun picture and frame wall but need the perfect poppy color. Does it exist? Your wall is perfection.
I love Black Friday! I have been doing it for years and there is so much excitement and exhilaration in it! I have found people to be OPPOSITE of what everyone says. Many times I make new friends as we stand in the long lines weaving around the store. We hold each other's places while we run and grab a few extra things we've spied. I have always had a side kick, a BFF or my husband to go with and that makes it super enjoyable too because you can tag team that way. If you avoid the SUPER crazies who are waiting in line all night and have mattresses and such set up, you are fine. Go to each store RIGHT at the time the doors open, I have always had EXCELLENT luck with getting everything I have needed and not running into any fist fights:)Target is always my favorite first stop and Bath and Body Works is a MUST!
Black Friday…..shudder….I heard many tales of horror….I do not attempt, but we usually dont buy really expensive things anyway and maybe thats what people go to get the best deals on. I have heard its much nicer as soon as the main rush has passed, say afternoon time. Still get some nice deals, and no camped out crazies. I still prefer just to go on weekday around 10 am. So quiet and nice:) Love the color of the frames by the way
I won't do Black Friday. Ever. I worked at Bath and Body Works for the holidays a few years ago for some extra cash and had to be at work at 4:30 am on Black Friday. After dealing with people as a cashier for a 4 hour non-stop shift, I vowed to never shop on Black Friday again. I was only there 4 hours and am still traumatized! I agree with Brittany about going shopping on a weekday, early.
Thank you for the reminder. I think we so often get caught up in so much "stuff" that we forget that life is really about those small moments that are spent with family and friends. Those you can not buy or reproduce.
What is SLC? I love your chalkboard saying – I saw that quote on Pinterest a while back and it's so true! Can't wait to see your Christmas decor. =]
