Hi All!
We’re in all out project mode over here! Painting ALL the things getting ready for the Fancy Farmgirls Barn Sale in just two weeks!
One of our latest makeovers was this antique dresser we found at our local thrift store.
Come to think of it, EVERYTHING in this picture was second hand.
From the dresser to the mirror turned chalkboard, the lamp, urn, bowl and candlesticks. All second hand and all united with paint!
The dresser had plenty of surface wear but was structurally in great condition, and look at those legs!
Hello 70’s contact paper!
I always love the contrast of a stained top and painted body so we sanded the top varnish away with our DeWalt Orbital Sander.
In my experience the older the piece, the quicker the varnish sands away. It took about 10-15 minutes to sand it down to the raw wood.
And yes, I do paint in the middle of my kitchen floor! š
Give the rest of the body a quick light sanding. Just enough to help the paint adhere better.
And for whatever reason I always start my paint projects upside down, it seems to go so much faster to lay it down before you’re dealing with wet paint and get all the hard to reach spots first and then flip the piece upright to finish.
I used Rust-oleum’s Chalked ultra matte paint in Serenity Blue
and finished off the top with Varathane wood stain in the color, Briarsmoke
I then protected the top with a coat of polyurethane.
I painted it using high density foam paint rollers and a brush for the hard to reach places.
I love the coziness it adds to this hard working mudroom.
This is where the dog hangs, along with the muddy shoes, backpacks, all the not so pretty essentials of day to day living. Add some cuteness in and it helps motivate to keep up appearances.
And a quick reminder as we head out each day to be thankful!
Add some homegrown pumpkins and pinecones with some greenery for decor that will take you from September through November.
As much as I’m loving it here, this piece is headed to our Fancy Farmgirls Barn Sale
Hopefully this has inspired you to look at all those mismatched pieces and give them a new life with some paint.
If you’re local (Meridian, ID) grab your girlfriends and come see us at the sale in October! We’d love to see you!
