I made cake for our primary training meeting and it was a huge hit. In fact, over the last five years I have always had a ton of success with these 3 cake-making secrets. People always rant and rave about how moist my cake is, but I attribute the deliciousness to these easy steps. The greatest part is that you probably already have the ingredients in your pantry.
I start with a plain old white cake mix, yep, I’m not ashamed to admit it. Then, after I mix the cake per the instructions, I follow these simple steps:
Step 1. Add 1/2 cup original applesauce to your cake batter. I buy the small 4 oz. original applesauce six packs for my kids’ snacks, so I almost always have one on hand.
Step 2. Add 1 small box of vanilla pudding {just the dry mix} to your cake batter
Step 3. Bake your cake and put it in the freezer overnight, or if you don’t have time for that, put it in the fridge for a few hours. It will help moisten your cake.
Try it. You’ll like it. It turns a plain cake into irresistible deliciousness. You can do it with other kinds of cake too, just adjust the flavor of pudding mix.
Happy Monday. Today’s theme: Eat more cake.

I have a chocolate chip cookie recipe with the same majic ingredient. vanilla pudding! soft yummy cookies everytime:)
*magic / not majic:)
Any reason to eat more cake sounds good to me! I’d love to learn how to make fabulous from scratch cakes. Maybe when my kids are grown, but until then it’s the boxes for us. At least my 9 yr old can make them by herself. 😉
Those are good tips to have! I do know that cakes are better on the second day as they have absorbed all the deliciousness of frosting. I try to make mine a day ahead…
Happy Medley
ooh love the idea of adding pudding powder! I alwayssss add some homemade vanilla extract to my recipes and it makes a huge difference 🙂
Can you add the ingredients to any cake such as yellow or chocolate?
Yes! I’ve never done chocolate, but yellow works great! If you try chocolate let me know how it goes!
Use starch instead of flour.
