- My daughter Oaklyn’s room was the first one we tackled in our new house. If you follow us on Instagram, you already got a sneak peek!
Oak’s Room Before:
She decided that she wanted Emerald Green Girl’s Room Decor.
We started by putting up this ADORABLE wall mural from Photowall, and painting the walls white. Instantly the vibe of the room was bright and airy, new, hip, and totally teen worthy.
Next we added some pizzaz with a new bed from Wayfair {which was less than $250 on sale}, new Beddys bedding, and we also relocated a few items from other rooms in the house. Oaklyn’s room is DONE!
I love how it all turned out, but more importantly, I loved seeing her face when she told me she loved her room. She and I decorated it together!
I know a lot of you are curious about the rug, and it’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever bought, but it’s definitely on the pricey side of the spectrum. I actually bought it for my master bedroom a few years ago, and decided to move it into Oaklyn’s room after we choose a color scheme.
Room Sources {in case you are curious}
- The bedding is my favorite kids Bedding in the whole world, Beddys Simply White.
- Rug is from Lulu and Georgia and you can find it here.
- Bed is a Queen from Wayfair. We got it on sale for less than $250.
- The green tufted velvet emerald green bench is absolutely darling, and it’s from Wayfair too.
- Macrame plant holders are from Amazon.
- The Temple Artwork and Letterboard are from Mandi’s Vintage Revivals Shop and the other artwork and decor items are from thrift stores and Homegoods.
- The cute gold lamp is from Target and it’s only $30.
- White dresser is from Walmart, but it’s not the best quality, so I wouldn’t recommend it.
- The house plants are all live and are from Home Depot. Did you know you can order live plants online!?! It’s amazing, and they are in perfect shape when they arrive. I was in shock the first time I did it and it worked!
- The pillows and nightstand are from HomeGoods.
- The cute three legged plant stand is from At Home along with small decor items and the ombre macrame wall hanging.
I know that decorating a room isn’t the most important thing in the world. But for me, it’s an act of service and a way that I can be creative. I love that my daughter and I spent time together every step of the way. We painted the room together, assembled the bed together, and we even searched for inexpensive items together. We chose bedding together, and even made a few mistakes together, and we had to solve the problems together too.
I had a friend tell me that projects like these are like the “shelling peas” of the past. I honestly believe that with my whole heart. I loved talking and working, and solving all the world’s problems through this project. From start to finish, this room took more than 6 weeks to complete.
One of my proudest Mom moments was when Oaklyn said to me, “Can I have a picture of the temple in my room?” I loved that she asked for that and I immediately knew that my friend Mandi’s temple prints would be perfect for her room!
I hope you like her room, and I kinda want to know your opinion on the “shelling peas” idea!

Brooke
