One main point that I try to make through All Things Thrifty is that no one should be afraid to paint over wood. Yes, I said PAINT over wood. Sometimes I think this is the biggest hang up for people. They think, well, I don’t like it, but it is a wood/oak/mahogany color that is in good shape.
This is my advice. If you don’t like the color, who cares if it is wood. PAINT IT.
Amanda did just that. She primed the bad boy with KILZ first.
Then she painted it a color called “La Fonda Turquoise” not sure of the brand.
Then she stenciled the front! LOVE THIS DETAIL!
And then she glazed it to give that extra little punch of professional detail.
I am in love. I wish this desk was in my house…right now.
Hop on over to her blog and give her some LOVE!
Absolutely beautiful… The color is WoW! I'm poised and ready to paint over wood… just waiting for the right piece…
I <3 your blog!

Awesome job on the re-do. La Fonda Turquoise is a Valspar color, available at Lowes.
Wow- if only all offices had desks like THIS! It'd make appointments so much more pleasant. LOVE IT!
Great job!
By the way, my mother-in-law once told me that "painting over wood was a sin!" Ha ha. I chose to ignore her!
Sweet! I love it, the color and everything about it!
I Love it! So pretty! Love the glaze…what color did you use?
Thanks so much for featuring my desk! I love it and it inspires me every time I sit at it! The glaze I used was Valspar Antiquing glaze in black. You can buy it at Lowe's.

Quick question–was the Kilz primer oil-based? I've been wanting to makeover a table and I found latex spray paint that I want to use. I looked for Kilz latex primer but so far can only find it in oil-based–not sure if they even make it in latex. For some reason I was thinking you shouldn't use oil-based primer with latex paint. Please advise!
Wow…that looks great.
Kilz oil based primer is what I have used on all of my projects. It works great with latex paint!
Thanks for the info, Amanda!
