Hey ATT fans! It’s Lauren, from Tastes Better From Scratch, and I’m so excited to share a super special family recipe with you guys! When I was thinking about what I wanted to share today, I knew I wanted to share something perfect for this season, and something that would knock your socks off! This Fresh Apple Cake is my grandma’s recipe, and it has been a family favorite for generations. The hard part about this post was the picture taking! This cake isn’t the “prettiest” cake in the world, but it just might be the tastiest!
The recipe itself is really easy, and really forgiving. The cake is extremely moist, probably because almost half of the cake batter consists of freshly grated apple! It basically melts in your mouth. And don’t even get me started on the homemade warm caramel sauce that is drizzled on top–it’s to die for! So, without further ado:
Fresh Apple Cake, from Tastes Better From Scratch
Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
1 cup butter, room temperature
2 eggs
6 apples, grated (cored, but keep the peel on)
2 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp cloves
1 cup chopped walnuts
Homemade Caramel Sauce, for topping
Directions:
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until well blended. Add the eggs and mix well. Stir in the freshly grated apple. In a separate bowl, mix together remaining dry ingredients. Add to the wet ingredients and mix, just until incorporated. Bake at 350 degrees F in a greased 9×13” pan for 40 min- 50 min, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool for at least 10 minutes. Serve warm with caramel sauce and whipped cream or ice cream.
