If you are landscaper, I owe you major props. My back aches. My hands hurt, and I now realize that I’m kind of a wuss. For this farm girl, that’s hard for me to admit. We started a big project in our front yard. Our neighbors kept driving past, and after waving to us 5 times in a 9 hour timeframe, I’m sure they were thinking, “What the H are they doing!?!?”
I have to admit, yesterday was a long day. Working in the yard took longer than I thought it would. Story of my life, right?
You might be wondering, “What the heck are they doing, and why?”
Well, last winter was a rough one for the mild climate that we live in. We had a hard freeze that killed a lot of the landscaping in our area. I think we were simply holding on to the chance that the plants would spring to life and come back this Spring, but no such luck. We finally started ripping out bushes, palm trees, and shrubs that didn’t make it.
Our poor yard looks like we love rocks, rocks, and more rocks. Not for long, peeps, not for long.
We hooked a tow strap around the roots of the plants and pulled them out with the truck.
We lost an olive tree right in front of our house, so that was the first to go.
We had three extremely large rose bushes in the front corner section of our yard, and we ripped them out too. Our kids are little, and they need nicer plants that don’t rip their shirts and scratch their skin.
I think the area directly in front of our courtyard would be a really pretty flower bed. So, the goal is to move all the small rocks out and plant flowers here.
If you have been around for awhile, you know that we landscaped our backyard a few years back. Hopefully our front yard will be a fun transformation to follow along with too. Plus, since my hubby loves having a dark green lawn, check out our recommendations for which fertilizer works the best!
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’ve been researching plants in our area. Are you in a dry hot climate? What plants do you love the most? Give me some pointers. 🙂
xoxo,
Happy Monday.

Your home looks nice!
Happy Medley
Thanks Anna!
Your house is really pretty, I can’t wait to see how it turns out. I know its super hard work because we did this with our home in Florida and it was SO much work but in the end it turned out great and I was so proud to say that I did it myself.
Thanks Stephanie! I’m excited to do it ourselves too!
Getting snagged by a rose is a great opportunity to stop and smell it….
