When we were in High school, our Dad made all his girls’ a hope chest.
We loved it and I’ve toted mine for over 25 years from apartment living, to our current home.
She was showing some wear and tear and it was time for a makeover.
I started by doing a very rough quick base coat of white.
I used chalk paint and added this Saltwash additive to the paint for a textured, paint layered look.
This is a great project for catering to your sloppy side.
You add the Saltwash additive to the paint
(you can use any kind of paint) and get it to the texture of a thick cake batter.
Using a cheap bristle brush you just slop on the paint and make what looks like a mess. If it looks bad you’re doing it right! 😉
Now with your sloppy paint can (no perfectionists here), we brushed on a top coat. No additive is used in the top coat.
Once dry you will sand down to expose some of the base color and magnify the textured look.
The same process was done to the pink vase.
Love this process for the aged patina it adds to a piece!
