A noisy screechy garage door is the worst, but until I went to fix two of my friends’ garage doors, they had no idea how easy and inexpensive it is to fix. I decided that all people, male or female should know how to fix a noisy garage door. If I can do it, I PROMISE you can too.
In fact, it’s so easy that I made a video to SHOW how to do it. I’m a visual learner so if it helps to see me do it, watch this:
Both doors took less than 5 minutes to fix each and both my friends were so grateful! Their ear-piercing screams from their garage doors are GONE!
Step 1: Head to Home Depot and purchase 1 can of 3-IN-ONE® Garage Door Lube. This specific can has fixed 3 garage doors in the last week and I still have some left over.
Step 2: Pull the straw up and click it into place.
A noisy garage door is literally screaming for moisture. In order to stop the loud screech, take your Garage Door Lube and follow the diagram below.
Step 3: Spray the hinges with 3-IN-ONE Garage Door Lube.
Each hinge needs to be sprayed on both sides of the hinge. A small amount is plenty. If you spray too much, your lube will drip out and make a mess on your garage door. If this happens, use a paper towel to wipe off the excess. You definitely don’t want to ruin your favorite blouse next time you slide past your garage door, right?
Spray specifically where the hinges rotate.
A step stool comes in handy if you are short like me, but honestly the lube sprays pretty far, so you don’t need the stool for very long.
Step 4: Spray across both springs.
Fun fact, my garage door spring BROKE this week. I should have been maintaining it better. If you lube it up regularly it will help prevent a broken spring.
3-IN-ONE recommends using its Garage Door Lube on your door monthly.
Step 5: Spray the tension cable wheels. These are located at the top of each side of your garage door tracks.
Step 6: Spray the rollers. It’s ok if you get some on the track. Plus the rollers are hooked to another hinge, so don’t forget to spray that too!
Step 7: Open and close the garage door multiple times to work the lube into the joints.
You will start to notice a difference immediately! Listen carefully. Sometimes your garage door is extremely dry, so you may need to spray a few places more than once. Keep opening and closing the garage door until it sounds better.
If you call a repairman to fix your noisy garage door it will cost over $50 for something that literally takes less than 5 minutes to do yourself. Plus the amazing 3-in-One Garage Door Lube is less than $6! It’s so easy. I promise!

Sidenote: If your garage spring breaks, do NOT try and fix that yourself. It is extremely dangerous and a professional should be called.
