Hey there! It’s Rachel from Like a Saturday popping in today with another fun and super easy craft project!
It’s hard to believe it, but Halloween has come and gone, the temperatures are dipping and I’ve already seen a whole slew of Christmas commercials. I’m starting to feel the Holiday spirit! I don’t like to skip Thanksgiving by any means, but I do like to start working on a few Christmas related projects in November so they’re ready to go come December! I get so excited for the Holiday season and love planning out my Christmas decor and crafts. It’s truly the most wonderful time of the year!
Along with our Christmas tree and mantel, my favorite spot to decorate is our front door area. I usually use a fresh greenery wreath for our front door at Christmas, but I wanted to try something new this year. Thus, my Joyful Christmas Door Hanger was born!
This door hanger/banner was very simple to make and didn’t take too long at all. To make your own you will need:
- 2 extra wide ribbons in different widths and colors/patterns
- Paper mache letters to spell out word of your choice
- Metallic spray paint
- Hot Glue Gun and glue sticks
To begin, give your paper mache letters a coat or two of metallic spray paint in the color of your choice. I used a silver hammered metal paint. I chose this particular paint to add texture and give a more vintagey rustic feel.
While your letters are drying, you can start working on the banner part of the door hanger. Lay out your two ribbons and decide on the length of your cuts. I found a great burlap ribbon to serve as my base, and a festive, sweater like ribbon at Hobby Lobby. Your local craft store should have a variety of options to choose from.
Once you have your ribbons cut and positioned, you’re ready to attach them together. Apply a line of hot glue every 5 or 6 inches. Make sure you are keeping the ribbons straight as you go.
When the paint on your letters has dried and the banner is ready to go, you can play around with the placement of the letters. Once that is settled, use a good amount of hot glue to adhere the letters to the banner. I also made a bow with some of the leftover ribbon {using the opposite side of my double-sided ribbon} to place at the top of the banner.
I also folded over the top of the banner and hot glued it down to create a pocket for hanging. I used a piece of twine and a dowel in this pocket to hang the banner on my front door.
I’m anxiously waiting for December to get here so I can hang this on my door without looking like a crazy person! 😉 I think it will look beautiful with some fresh garland hanging around the door frame and a few twinkle lights, too!
Have you started planning your Christmas decor, yet?
