Multi-Functioning Coffee Table {Kid’s Art Supply Storage AND Flower Planter in one!}

Sometimes it’s hard to create that balance between a chaotic house and a clean house, and every single day I found myself pulling out the art supplies for my daughter Londyn. She loves to draw, and I decided that instead of putting away the art supplies multiple times a week, we would make a permanent table in the family room for her crayons and colored pencils. The great thing about the table though is that the containers are completely removable and they have all sorts of different uses!

It has worked out even better than I imagined. The crayons are no longer all over the floor 24/7, and she draws even more these days. I call that a success.

Making the table was so easy and super inexpensive too! I bought a table at the local D.I. {Utah’s version of goodwill} for only $25.00.

I figured that if the project didn’t work out that I was only out $25, right!?! Smile

I bought six black plastic pots from The Home Depot for only $1.67 each.  I knew I only needed three for this project, but I wanted them to be interchangeable.

I measured the center of the table and divided it into three equal parts and marked where the pots should go.

It took a test board to find the exact right size of circle that we needed to cut because it had to be precisely right in order to function correctly. Turns out one of my Tupperware containers was exactly the right size. Smile  I marked around the Tupperware with a black Sharpie marker.

I drilled a hole and cut the circle with my jigsaw. {In case you are wondering I did this entire project myself, no husband this time.}

I cut all three holes in less than 15 minutes. It was super easy.

Flowers look cute in the table too!

But the best thing about this project is that it is so versatile! Heck, I could put snacks in the table for parties!

For now, they are perfect for art supplies.

We love the table and so many others do too!

  1. What a great idea! And it’s easy for her to put them all away when she’s finished with her masterpiece! Love your colorful accessories too:)

  2. What a great idea. Especially love that you used a thrifted table so if it gets marked up from the art supplies – no biggie! Might have to try something like this….

  3. I LOVE this! I’m always looking for little containers to stick crayons and markers in cause it seems like they run away and hide no matter what I do! 🙂 This is perfect and that table is so retro. Great find! You are my DIY idol, girl! I don’t know how you do it with 4 kids! I have two littles and they are a handful especially when I’m working on a project and/or a post.

    Thanks for sharing all that you do!

  4. THIS IS RAD. Houses that are all for show and not for function and real families with kids bug me! This is one of the best kid-friendly organization systems I’ve ever seen. GO BROOKE!

  5. The best stuff I had ever ordered for our kid’s rooms is a student style raised
    bed with space with a desk/play space under it.
    Our kids love going to bed on the top bunk. We love the fact that we’ve been making the most
    of the space.
