Greetings, from the Fancy Farmgirls!
We’re Marg and Liz, “the twins”.
We like to bring old furniture back to life.
Each fall, with the start of the new school year, we get the itch to change it all up.
Décor wise that is.
Maybe it’s because we have a few moments to catch our breath and take an inventory of the state of our homes.
There are some pieces in my home that I still love, but I’m tired of seeing it on the same wall decorated the same way.
Easy enough, change it’s location and change it’s purpose and keep your change in your pocket!
“Old school” rules designated dressers for bedrooms, hutches for kitchens, sofa tables for living rooms, etc.
The rules have changed and furniture is allowed to reside wherever you want it to reside.
We wanted to show how one piece of furniture could easily function in three separate rooms, with three separate looks and three separate functions.
We found this hutch at the local thrift store.
We started by giving it a good sanding.
We painted it a soft gray and distressed it good.
We like to take old furniture, add new paint and then make it look old again. Our husbands are so confused 🙂
The glass had been broken out of the doors when we bought it. No worries. We just added in some chicken wire which gives it more personality.
Aaand if you happen to own chickens and don’t want to make a trip to the store you can just cut a section off their pen.
Yep, that’s what we did. Redneck, or resourceful? We’ll let you choose 🙂
1st look:
Little Girl’s Room
We started by stenciling the back to add some whimsy.
For that, we just used poster board that we stenciled so we could easily pop it in and out to change the look.
We added pink knobs and accessories and this hutch is now perfect for a little girl’s room!
2nd Look:
Kitchen hutch.
We changed the knobs to oil rubbed bronze and added dishes and kitchen accessories.
This is storage at it’s finest. Functional and beautiful!
3rd Look:
The bathroom.
If you’re lucky enough to have room for a hutch, these are great.
You’ve got to store the not so glamorous needed items, you may as well do it in style.
So next time you’re tired of your décor and want a change, you don’t need to run out on a shopping spree.
Simply changing the location and function can help you fall in love with a piece all over again.
And speaking of falling in love… come visit us at fancyfarmgirls.blogspot.com and see how Liz is putting love into our childhood farmhouse.
Take a tour of her farmhouse kitchen
which resides in THIS home.
Why yes, they do go together.
Got you curious now don’t I ? 🙂
