I have a new calling. {I’m LDS, and if you are curious about that, click on my post about being the hippest mormon you’ve ever met HERE.}
I’m the new Primary Secretary. Can I just say that whoever has had this calling is my hero. Holy cow!! My organization skills are being put to the test. Our primary is quite large with almost 140 kids. Plus, it is a busy time of year changing all of the 2014 classes over to 2015. Every Sunday for the past 3-4 weeks has been NUTS! Every Sunday feels like an indoor marathon.
The Primary kids are a hoot. They are soooo funny, and plus if you follow us on Instagram, you know that my husband is the best Primary chorister of all time who dresses up like Christmas trees and stuff like that. <—Yep, I can’t help but brag on him a little bit. It’s quite entertaining to say the least.
He is so perfect for that calling. He sings like an angel and the kids adore him. Click on the image below to see this picture on our Instagram feed:
If you are LDS, you know that the 2015 theme for Primary is “I Know my Savior Lives.” We decided to make our Primary kids each a notebook/journal that they could have for the whole year. I personally let my kids draw during sacrament meeting as long as they are drawing something related to church.
The notebooks were very inexpensive and cost under .70 each!
The notebooks were only $.50 each after I found them on Wal-Mart’s website for cheaper than in the store. If you buy them in the store they are $.88 each. So when I was buying 175, it made a HUGE difference to get them at $.50 each. The website said that the item was available in the store and they price matched the item to $.50.
Here is the link to the $.50 version.
I covered up the ugly part on the front with a simple piece of vinyl and then printed 2″x4″ Avery 18163 shipping labels with the “I know my Savior lives” graphic.
They were sooo easy to make. They would also be a great birthday gift for the primary kids! I love that Wal-Mart had a ton of different colors and patterned notebooks too!
The kids LOVE them! Most of them were super surprised that they could take them home too!
I am all for anything that helps the kids ponder what they are learning about at church. I know that for some it may not work, but it was worth the risk. š
Here is an up-close look at the label.

The images fit perfectly on Avery 2″x4″ shipping labels number 18163.
Wish me luck with my new calling! If you aren’t LDS, do you volunteer at your church?
Have a great weekend!
xoxo, Brooke
I’m not LDS but I do volunteer at my church.
VBS is the best and I am the tech chick in the booth on Sundays.
I just got called as the Primary Secretary for our ward too, the week before Christmas. Our primary has 170 kids, so we are big like ya’ll. We got a whole new presidency. I have been the President before and always said I never wanted to the secretary because they do SO MUCH work lol. Never say never! š I love the notebook idea. Such a good idea. I think it would be great to give to the 8 year olds getting baptized for them to write in about their thoughts and feelings about their baptism, too. I feel so in over my head in this calling. I love a good challenge though and work way better under pressure so I think I will survive. Im excited to here about your journey in the new calling as well. Your husband looks like the coolest chorister EVER!! I love guys in primary… because they are so committed and so much fun for the kids. Good luck on your new calling and thank you so much for sharing this awesome project.
Has your husband heard of the LDS Primary Chorister page on facebook? Best resource ever!
Yes! It is a great place!!
Thank you so much for this printable! We had a special lesson on the Sabbath today in sharing time and made these notebooks for them to write their thoughts on Sundays. I appreciate you sharing this, it helped a lot!
