UPDATED RECIPE! Due to commercial cake mixes decreasing their contents. This recipe has been updated to accommodate that change.
Six years ago we had THE NICEST neighbor. Her name was Mandi and she made these brownies for me and my family. Lets just say we’ve been hooked ever since!!
And guess what? She was nice enough to share her recipe with me! So today I am going to be really nice and share it with you! 😉 You will not be disappointed if you decide to make these for your next treat! Cross my heart! Also… make sure you read the WHOLE recipe, start to finish before making these!
The Most Delicious Caramel Brownies EVER!
Ingredients
Brownie mixture:
- 1 German Chocolate Cake Mix Make sure it is BETTY CROCKER!
- 1/3 cup Evaporated Milk
- 1/2 cup Melted Butter
Caramel:
- 35 Unwrapped Caramels {or 11 oz package of caramel bits}
- 1/3 cup Evaporated Milk
- 1 cup Chocolate Chips
- 1 cup Chopped Nuts {optional}
Instructions
-
Mix first three ingredients together.
-
Spread 2/3 of brownie mix in a 9x13 pan. Bake at 350 for 7 min. Then remove and allow to cool slightly.
-
Meanwhile, melt caramels & evaporated milk.
-
Once brownies are slightly cooled, pour the caramel on brownie mixture.
-
Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts on caramel.
-
Then piece remaining brownie mixture together, place on top and bake again at 350 for 15-18 min. *See notes on how to do this!*
-
Let them cool completely before you cut and eat… Less mess and I think they taste better!
Recipe Notes
** OK, bear with me here, you want to kind of smash the remaining brownie mix in your hands, pancake like and then gently place on top of the caramels and chips. Leave holes though, so that you can "see" the yummyness. The picture above gives you a good idea as to how it should look.**
SIDENOTE: 9 times out of 10 I double this and make them in a cookie sheet! {A 9×13 is never enough!} ? Same cooking times apply!
I cannot wait for you to try these! Yum!
If you make them {or any other treat/food/recipe} take a picture and use #allthingsdelicious !!!

Was just looking for something to bring to my husband’s job’s BBQ tonight and this is perfect! thanks!
Caramel Brownies sound delicious!
These look incredible! And it looks like there’s not a whole lot of prep time, which is a bonus.
Those look incredible!!!! I can’t begin to tell you how much I want them!
I came across this recipe back in the early 80’s and have make them a lot. They are SO GOOD. They have become everyone’s favorite. the worst part is peeling the wrapper off all of the caramels. My husband and grandbabies gladly help because they know that they will reap the reward. 🙂
Our family makes these, we usually add chipped up walnuts into the cake mixture. So good!
Okay. I tried these on a cookie sheet (jelly roll pan) and they did NOT turn out looking like yours at all. They ran over the edge and you can’t see the “yummy” stuff in the middle, like in your pictures. What did I do wrong?! It sounds like such a good recipe but I get an F for my presentation on this one! Any suggestions??
OH NO!! Ok, I have no idea what went wrong, but let’s figure it out. You only put 2/3 of the recipe into the pan at first, right? And then you put the caramel on top and then you use the rest of the 1/3 of the recipe to piece over the top of the caramel. Did you do it like this?
Try letting the base and caramel sauce cool more before putting the caramel on top. Also, I liked the m better when I reduce the butter to 3/4 cup. Good luck,
I made these in a cookie sheet and took to a party. There was not ONE drop left. Success in my book! I will definitely make again! Delicious!
