Do you want to know how to make this ruffly, girlie, frilly pillow? Well you are in luck, because I’m going to teach you. I saw a pillow with a similar flower like this one in house #11 of the St. George Parade of Homes. (The Heritage Hotties are still inspiring me!)
Step #1: Buy a roll of lace. I bought mine at Wal-Mart for $7.97. It looked like this. I’m pretty sure the roll of lace that I bought was meant to go on the outside of a baby blanket.
Step #2: Make some tea and let it sit for a minute or two to make sure it is as dark as it will get.
Step #3: Put in your lace. Dying the lace will make it look like antique lace. I tried to find some authentic antique lace, but I was a little impatient. So, if you have access to some antique lace, I’m totally jealous!
Step #4: Dry your lace: After a few hours, I rinsed off the lace until the water was clear, and then I put the lace in the drier to dry.
Step #5: Make a pillow cover. If you don’t remember how to make one, go HERE for instructions!
Step #6: Start tacking down the lace starting on the OUTSIDE edge first. As you go around the edge, you will need to pleat the lace to make it lay flat onto the pillow. I used thread and a needle, but my sister pointed out to me that a hot glue gun would have worked nicely (and would be much easier!)
Here it is after one circle is complete.
Keep going.
And going!
Step #7: Add a button, and stuff the pillow.
Can’t you see this cute pillow in a nursery!
Price Breakdown: 1/4 of a yard of fabric that was $1.00 a yard= 25 cents and lace from Wal-Mart approx. $8.00. Total Cost: $8.25 for this pillow cover. Now that’s THRIFTY!
It's darling! I love the color!
I had forgotten about the tea bag method. had used it on many projects several years ago. Love the end result. The color is great and like it against the blue.
ooooh …i love this! Definitely going to try and make one this week. Thanks for sharing!!
